Condensor mics
can be divided into tube or solid state. For example, some condensor mics
are powered by way of transistors (solid state) and others use vacuum tubes
for power.
As you can imagine, the solid state condenser mics are a little more durable,
but you still need to handle them gingerly due to the innate fragility
of the diaphragm. The vacuum tube condenser mic has a well-deserved reputation
for a warm, natural sound. Tube condenser mics possess a softer high end,
whereas the solid state condenser mics are known for their transparency.
