One thing you
will need to consider when using cardioid pattern mics in close miking
situations in your studio: the proximity effect. What this means is that
when you place a cardioid type microphone close the sound source, the mic
will produce more bass than it is really picking up. Again, this is not
a bad
thing as this characteristic actually sounds good in live situations. In
your studio, it’s a simple thing to roll off some bass on the board.
