Essential
Home Studio Gear.
Here’s a short list of the basic components required for you to start your home
studio. 1) Instruments and microphone devices (referred to as Input Devices).
These are the things that will generate the music that you are going to record.
2) A Mixer. This will give you the ability to blend the different tracks you lay
down, controlling the different levels and tones of each individual track. You
will utilize the Mixer twice in the recording process: first when you put the
initial tracks down; second when you blend all of your tracks down to two tracks,
or a stereo mix (this is known as the Mixdown). 3) A Recorder. This can be as
simple as a cassette 4 track or a $20,000 hard disc recording system. It’s all
the same concept. 4) Monitors (speakers, for the uninitiated). You need these
in order to hear what you are recording. No matter how complicated or expensive
your system becomes, it will always involve these 4 basic components.
