What An Audio Mixer Does

What An Audio Mixer Does. The Mixer is the at the heart of most studios. Despite its daunting appearance with its myriad buttons, knobs and Faders, it’s really laid out in a logical and straightforward fashion. It’s also one of the most versatile and functional pieces of equipment you can find. It gives you the ability to monitor and modify the signal from the level of the input, the tone of the signal, the routing to the external effects, the level of the effects, the levels of the outgoing signals – and the list goes on and on. Here’s a tip for someone who is looking at the mixer for the first time. Move your eyes vertically down the first channel. Every knob, button and Fader that you see is mitigating the signal sequentially, from where it enters the board (the trim or attenuation knob at the top) to the overall level Fader at the bottom. These are known as ‘Channel Strips.’
