Where
it all begins: pre-production details... The time is nigh
for a recording session - no more putting it off. You've extended
your resources as far as you can go in acquiring the best
possible gear. At this point, it is now time to maximize the
performance of what you have at your disposal by addressing
the details. New strings on those guitars - don't forget to
stretch 'em before you roll tape. Might as well set the intonation
while your at it (if this isn't your field of expertise, have
it done at your local guitar shop). How about some fresh tubes
for that amp? Make sure all your cables and connections are
of sound circuitry (i.e. soundless). New heads on the drums
- and much like guitar strings, you have to stretch and tune
these fresh heads. Lubricate any moving drum hardware, such
as your bass drum pedal, hi-hat pedal/stand, or drum throne.
That is, unless you want those squeaks to be audible in the
quiet sections of your music. Regardless, it's all about shoring
u!
p the loose ends.
