Storage on Hard Disc. In most of the home studios around today, the storage medium
of choice is the hard disc. The same is true for commercial studios and CD manufacturers.
Hard disc are becoming more inexpensive every day, are often portable, and can
be added on or swapped out with a minimum of effort and expense. The only downside
is crashes, or catastrophic system failure. This is becoming less and less of
issues, as hard disc systems improve and the technology matures. In addition,
this can be guarded against by a variety of back-up systems, ranging from sophisticated
real-time mirroring on another hard disk to regular back up to digital tape or
CD.
