DAT
Explained. DAT (Digital Audio Tape) was originally intended to be the replacement
technology for cassette tapes, but they never really caught on for consumer
use.
They
remained
expensive, and the price of a single DAT tape is still much more than that of
a single cassette. However, they did find their home in most commercial recording
studios, utilized primarily as a mix-down device. DAT tapes are a convenient
way
to store large amounts of digital information and they dont take up a
great
deal of space. They are not on the must have list for any home studio,
but still, they are nice to have if you can afford it.
