Bass Traps

Bass Traps. Once you have discovered that you have standing waves in your recording space (and don’t worry if you do – most of us have them) there are definitive things that you can do to ameliorate this acoustical effect. Companies such as Auralex make acoustical treatments for small studios as well as large. One product is what’s known in the business as a Bass Trap. These are designed to literally ‘Trap’ the low frequencies that are bouncing around and causing all the headaches. As you won’t be able to fix every area where standing waves occur, you will really need to pay careful attention to the critical areas only. For this of us on a budget, the corners behind you when you are mixing are the primary spot for a pair of bass traps.
